In Los Angeles, does Zwirner have a show of Garry Winogrand,
Basquiat and early Judd? McCracken is a great California counterpoint to the
anger and desperation of diCorcia and Pettibon. McCracken’s large, primary-colored
sculptures feel more like giant children’s blocks than cold minimalist tombs,
but I guess that’s what you get from a California surfer who starts with surf
boards and then goes on to making minimalist sculptures. I still think you
would have had an even more amazing show if work by diCorcia, Pettibon and
McCracken were combined as one large group show.
Through Oct. 19th
