Vesna Pavlovic, Searching for Landscapes @ ZEITGEIST Gallery

You can’t go wrong with slide carousels of vintage tourist photographs. It certainly has a way of bringing the photographic image into a pure state, free of artistic intent, readily available context or technical standards, just sweet, lovable images documenting this and that. Pavlovic certainly has a keen eye in with to edit down an infinite amount of vernacular images into a coherent group of visually engaging pictures, where white tourists of our grandparents’ generation travel the world to point at stakes and photograph lions. Still, the best picture in the show is one of Pavlovic’s own making, an image of a young woman, the type you might find behind the desk ok a high end gallery looking up into what appears to be something akin to a Viewmaster.
