I went to Making Waves mostly because I am a fan of Joseph
Maida’s work. Though I think Daniel Cooney tends to put on some decent shows, I
can’t say I had a lot of interest in this one. I was surprised to find that the
art of Slava Mogutin and Frank Yanrus was work by two different people, but despite
the nice Harry Callahan, I spent most of the show bummed there wasn’t more Joseph
Maida work. His one portrait of a shirtless Asian man in front of a rocky
tropical coast is pretty spot on, but I still was not terribly excited for the
show until I picked up the postcard for the Joseph Maida solo show that’s
coming up next at Daniel Cooney. That saved the day for me.
