Is Lost Weekend NYC a gallery? a clothing store? a coffee house?
You can’t blame people for wanting to make a living, and I assume if you
combine three financially questionable endeavors into one business model, it may
make some strange sense. The art part is a little lacking, a show of black and
white headshot portraits taken with an 8x10 camera. It is a hard thing to pull
off without looking like Richard Avedon, and for the most part, I think Avedon
is pretty superficial and dull. Halsband’s pictures, like Avedon’s, feature
people from interesting sub-groups and even of some fame, but the stripped-down
images with facial expressions ranging from smiles to blank stares rob the
subjects of context, leaving the viewer with a lot of surface and not much
substance.
