Alex Webb, The Suffering of Light – Thirty Years of Images @ Aperture Foundation

I wish I liked Alex Webb more. It can be very hard to describe that line when art photography becomes photojournalism, but for me it’s just the other side of Alex Webb. He has amazing pictures, like the border guards stopping men in a field of yellow flowers while a helicopter hovers overhead, but so many of his pictures just strike me as informational. Often they just seem to be well seen shots of crowds of people who look like they’ve walked into a Magnum Photography story on a third world country. I almost wish Webb could collaborate with Richard Mosse. I somehow think the two of them could make some awesome work together.
